With society, media, and celebrities creating these images of the “perfect body” that everyone should have, it is easy to not like the way we look. The world has surrounded us with this unachievable image of beauty in magazines and movies. It pressures us to do whatever it takes to achieve this image of perfection, when in reality, we are perfect just as we are.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; you’re works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14
God made each and every one of us in his image. He specially crafts every single person in the womb just as they are supposed to be. Each of us are a piece of art he took the time to design and create. Talking bad about our body is like critiquing a painting you spent lots of time and energy on. When you call yourself ugly, you are calling God’s work ugly.
We all (myself included) need to focus on remembering we are crafted by The Lord and made in his perfect image. Stop focusing on all the things you don’t like about your body and start showing off all the things you do love. Get out a piece of paper and write down 10 things you love about yourself. Hang it on your mirror so that every day you can be reminded of how truly beautiful you really are.
Also, remind other people of their beauty. Instead of complimenting someone on their shoes or shirt, try telling them how beautiful their smile is. The next time you see a stranger and catch yourself thinking wow she has gorgeous hair make yourself take the 3 seconds to go up and tell her. Getting compliments from people you don’t know means so much and will stick with them for a long time. These seemingly casual compliments can really help boost someone’s self confidence and make them truly feel more beautiful.
So the next time you find yourself hating something about your body, remind yourself that God crafted you in his perfect image. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and God sees a masterpiece in you just the way you are.
